TWISTING IN THE WIND

I decided to kill the weatherman,
Because he was calling for storms,
And I decided to kill the activist,
Because he was calling for a purge.

A purge in the storm
Is a twisting in the wind.

I decided to kill the hermit,
But I finally couldn't find him-
That seems to be the way it always is:
Hate yourself until you're new again.

I decided to kill the warrior,
But I couldn't find the right weapon,
I left him standing in the doorway
Back there where time began...

I decided to kill the salesman,
Because I could no more pretend,
But he made a bargain with the road
A few days ago and I'll never have to listen again!

I decided to kill the zookeeper,
Because all the animals were sick-
Why didn't he bring them their special food?
I guess they'll just rot in the cages-

I decided to kill the baby
I just couldn't stand all the crying-
Flush away the memories in a vacuum,
Now they just creep up behind!

A purge in the storm
Is a twisting in the wind.

I decided to kill the killer-
I must remove this last role
Only then can I rise from the ashes
Finally naked and whole -

In the wind I am twisting,
Twisting in the wind . . ..
